Hanoi (VNA) - Local officials reported that Principal Sasiphat Sinsamosorn passed away at a hospital early on February 12 after sustaining gunshot wounds during a shooting the previous afternoon at a school in Hat Yai city, Songkhla province, Thailand.
Songkhla Police Chief Teerasak Chaiyotha stated that the suspect had opened fire on Sasiphat before authorities could intervene and apprehend him.
He further noted that although she was rushed to emergency surgery, she ultimately succumbed to her injuries, with the Songkhla public relations department later confirming she died from severe blood loss while praising her as a brave educator.
The Thai Ministry of Public Health confirmed that, in addition to the principal, a 14-year-old female student was shot in the abdomen and underwent surgery.
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old suspect was being treated in hospital after being grazed by a bullet and had not been charged pending an investigation.
The school administration announced that classes would be suspended for two days to facilitate the collection of evidence and a comprehensive review of security measures./.
