Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia has disbursed about 3.5 billion USD from international financing under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) to support the development of its green economy, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced on February 10.
According to the minister, total green financing commitments for JETP programmes in Indonesia currently amount to 21.4 billion USD, while initiatives under AZEC contribute around 500 million USD.
He stressed that accelerating the disbursement and implementation of these programmes reflects Indonesia’s strong commitment to energy transition and sustainable development.
In addition to international funding, the Indonesian Government has allocated 404.2 trillion IDR (about 24 billion USD) in the 2026 State Budget to strengthen national energy security, including financing for green economy initiatives.
To realise these goals, the government is preparing and developing a number of key projects supported through the JETP mechanism, including the Sulawesi Green Energy Corridor (GECS) and the Green Bond Development Facility (GBDF). Indonesia is also seeking to tap its renewable energy potential estimated at up to 3,686 GW, along with plans to build a 70-km green super grid.
Notably, through state investment management agency Danantara, the country is accelerating the development of waste-to-energy plants, which are expected to begin operation from March 2026.
The minister added that Indonesia is promoting downstream industries for electric vehicle batteries and solar panels, while expanding the biofuel blending mandate from B40 to B50. The country is also advancing research and application of sustainable aviation fuel, hydrogen and green ammonia, and speeding up the deployment of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCS/CCUS) technologies.
The green economy is projected to generate up to 4.4 million new jobs by 2029, contributing to the country’s dual goals of ensuring energy security and food security, he said./.
