Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia’s Conference of Rulers on June 16 convened a special meeting under the chair of King Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to discuss the viewpoints that political leaders submitted to the King in the past seven days.

This is the second meeting held by the conference since the King took office. The first one was organised on October 25, 2020.

At the meeting, the King said that the country's parliament should reconvene as soon as possible, to allow lawmakers to debate different issues, especially those related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the reconvening, emergency ordinances and a coronavirus recovery plan will also be discussed, he said.

The King underlined that inoculation against COVID-19 is the only strategy to control the spreading of the pandemic across the country.

Malaysia has been under a state of emergency since January 12 until August 1 due to COVID-19. Parliament sittings are not allowed to take place during the emergency. The country's opposition has since called for parliament to be reconvened to allow discussion and bilateral cooperation on the pandemic response./.
