The dead toll from the ongoing flooding in the Mekong Delta rose to 24, among them were 21 children, announced the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control.

By Oct. 10, 57,537 houses have been submerged in flood water and almost 24,000 ha of crop land inundated.

The flood has damaged more than 2,000 ha of aquatic products breeding farms and broke hundreds of kilometres of transportation route with an estimated total loss of nearly 950 billion VND (45 million USD).

In response to the emergency situation, the provinces’ authorities in the region have kept watch around the clock, mobilising all resources to reinforce essential dyke sections and evacuate residents out of dangerous areas.

According to the National Hydro-Meteorology Forecast Centre, a new spell of flood is rising in rivers in the central coastal provinces of Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and the Central Highland’s southern regions.

The water level on rivers in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Binh Dinh and the Central Highland will also rise./.
