Hanoi (VNA) - A closing ceremony of the multilateral naval exercise MILAN 2026 was held on February 25 aboard the Indian aircraft carrier INS Vikrant by the Indian Navy.
The ceremony was presided over by Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy. Deputy Chief of Staff of Naval Region 2 Colonel Le Dinh Nghi who is also head of the Vietnam People’s Navy delegation, attended the event.
Held under the theme “Camaraderie, Cooperation, Collaboration,” MILAN 2026 drew participation from 74 countries, with 16 nations deploying ships. The sea-phase drill involved 39 vessels and three submarines, organised into three tactical groups and one support group.
The Vietnam People’s Navy sent Ship 17 from Brigade 171 under Naval Region 2 to join non-combat activities within the exercise framework.
During the drill, participating navies coordinated closely, strictly implemented agreed plans and successfully completed all training contents, ensuring absolute safety.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Rear Admiral Alok Ananda thanked participating countries for sending ships and personnel, expressing his hope for continued support in future editions. He described MILAN 2026 as the largest exercise ever held, highlighting it as a valuable opportunity for navies to exchange experience, strengthen friendship and mutual understanding, and enhance cooperation in addressing maritime security challenges./.
