- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a conference in the central province of Nghe An on August 24 to coordinate preparations for the upcoming Typhoon Kajiki, the fifth storm to hit the East Sea this year, as authorities brace for its potential impact.

PM Chinh warned that the intensifying typhoon could unleash heavy rainfall, flash floods, landslides, and widespread inundation, posing risks to mountainous, low-lying, and coastal areas. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on August 23 urged urgent actions to unify technologies, infrastructure and platforms for handling commune-level administrative procedures, ensuring a single, modern and interoperable system with shared standards and measurements.

Addressing a meeting to review two months of implementing the two-tier local government model, PM Chinh described the restructuring of administrative units as a “revolution” in organisation aimed at creating momentum for a new era of prosperity. Read full story

- Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives (Parliament) Gerry Brownlee will pay an official visit to Vietnam from August 27 to 31.

The visit will be made at the invitation of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Read full story

- Vietnamese Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan held talks with Nepali Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav in Kathmandu on August 24, during which they shared their countries’ development goals and mapped out major directions to enhance bilateral cooperation.

Both sides agreed that Vietnam and Nepal are entering a new stage of development. Vietnam is pursuing strategic breakthroughs to become a high-income developed country by 2045, while Nepal aims to reach middle-income status by 2030. They underlined the need to strengthen exchanges, share experiences, and support each other in realising these goals. Read full story

- Forbes Vietnam magazine has announced the top 50 listed companies in Vietnam in 2025, honouring outstanding enterprises across various sectors including Vietjet, FPT, Vinamilk and Petrolimex.

According to the ranking, Vietjet secured a position among the top five enterprises with the highest revenue last year. Read full story

- A digital marketplace for recyclable waste – mGreen was launched on August 23 in the central city of Hue as part of the project “Hue – Plastic Smart City in central Vietnam,” funded by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Norway through WWF-Vietnam.

The system, developed in partnership with the Hue Department of Agriculture and Environment and the mGreen Initiative, introduces two mobile apps – Buy Recyclables mGreen and Sell Recyclables mGreen. Together, they create an online marketplace that not only connects buyers and sellers of recyclable waste but also encourages waste sorting at source and supports the implementation of extended producer responsibility (EPR) through the participation of licensed recycling firms. - Vietnam’s tourism associations, led by Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA), gathered in the central province of Thanh Hoa on August 23 to devise a coordinated action plan to meet government targets and elevate the country’s profile as a global travel destination.

Under the Resolution 226/NQ-CP, issued on August 5, the Government set a target of welcoming 25 million foreign tourists and 150 million domestic travelers in 2025. VITA Chairman Vu The Binh called the goal “a heavy but promising task,” urging the industry to swiftly pool resources, craft actionable plans, and act on them aggressively. Read full story

- National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines announced on August 24 afternoon that it would adjust flights at several airports in central Vietnam due to the impact of Typhoon Kajiki, the fifth storm to hit the East Sea this year.

According to the airline, flights at Phu Bai Airport in Hue City will be canceled on August 24. They are Flights VN1549, VN1548, VN7067, VN7066, VN7545, VN7544 between Hanoi and Hue and VN1378, VN1379 between Ho Chi Minh City and Hue. On August 25, flights to and from Hue are expected to operate after 12pm. Read full story

- VinFast announced on August 23 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest bank, to offer vehicle financing packages for individual customers through its exclusive dealer network.

Two military officers promoted to rank of Senior Lieutenant General
