Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last weekend by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Party General Secretary To Lam praised the achievements and contributions of the People’s Public Security Intelligence over the past 80 years, while attending a ceremony marking the force’s anniversary held in Hanoi on February 8.

The Party leader expressed profound gratitude to fallen intelligence officers, revolutionary martyrs and families who have rendered meritorious service to the nation, noting their sacrifices for national independence, public security and social stability. Read full story

– Party General Secretary To Lam on February 8 met with a delegation of outstanding overseas Vietnamese (OVs) attending the Homeland Spring Programme 2026, urging them to continue contributions to the nation building and development cause.

At the meeting, the Party leader warmly welcomed the OV representatives returning from many countries and territories to celebrate the Lunar New Year (Tet). He noted that 2025 was a year of both opportunities and challenges, marked by complex global and regional developments. Thanks to the unity and joint efforts of the entire Party, people and armed forces, including the contributions of around 6.5 million Vietnamese people abroad, Vietnam successfully overcame difficulties and achieved important results across fields. – The Party Central Committee’s Political Bureau and Secretariat opened a national conference in Hanoi on February 7 morning to disseminate and implement the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The hybrid event, with the main venue at the Dien Hong Hall of the National Assembly building, was connected with 31,097 sites of central agencies, provincial and commune-level localities, and Party organisations of the armed forces and businesses nationwide via videoconferencing, with more than 1.9 million participants. It was also broadcast live by Vietnam Television and Radio the Voice of Vietnam, as well as on digital platforms. Read full story

– Politburo member, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Doan Minh Huan on February 7 announced the Politburo’s Decision No. 05 dated February 6, 2026, on the establishment of a Steering Committee for the review of 100 years of the Party’s leadership of the Vietnamese revolution (1930–2030), leadership orientations for national development over the next 100 years (2030–2130), and the review of the 40-year implementation of the Platform for National Construction during the transitional period to socialism.

Under the decision, the steering committee will be headed by Party General Secretary To Lam. Read full story

– State President Luong Cuong has called on Vietnamese at home and abroad to strengthen national solidarity and contribute their intellect, resources and dedication to national construction and defence, stressing that every effort adds to building a peaceful and prosperous Vietnam.

Delivering his Lunar New Year message and beating the ceremonial drum to open the Xuan Que Huong (Homeland Spring) 2026 art programme themed “Vietnamese Aspiration: Peace and Prosperity”, the President expressed appreciation for the overseas Vietnamese’s affection and responsibility toward the country, affirming that the “Vietnamese aspiration” is the nation’s spiritual driving force. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh gave a reception in Hanoi on February 8 for Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei ahead of the Lunar New Year (Tet) – the Year of the Horse.

– Vietnam saw nearly 2.5 million international arrivals in January 2026 – the highest monthly total ever recorded, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).
