Vietnam attaches importance to developing friendship and cooperation with Latin American countries, including consolidating and strengthening multi-faceted relations with Chile, said National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.
Ngan made the remark during the reception in Hanoi on March 31 for Vice President of the Lower House of the National Congress of Chile Denise Pascal Allende, who is in Vietnam for the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132).
During the meeting, the host suggested the two nations’ legislatures support and promote measures to enhance the comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Chile.
She said through all-level delegation exchange and meetings, the bilateral relations have expanded in recent years, adding that the links between the two countries’ legislative bodies have yielded positive results.
Economic and trade cooperation developed strongly, especially after Vietnam and Chile signed a bilateral Free Trade Agreement, she noted.
She urged the two Governments to back one another at multilateral forums, such as the United Nations, IPU and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), saying that Vietnam hopes Chile will support Vietnam’s candidacy to the UN Security Council (2020-2021) and the UN Economic and Social Council (2016-2018).
For her part, Denise Pascal Allende expressed her hope that Vietnam and Chile will further promote their cooperation, especially in economics, politics, culture and agriculture.-VNA
