National Day marked in Laos, Mozambique

The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos held a banquet in Vientiane on August 31 celebrating the 73rd anniversary of National Day of Vietnam (September 2).

Vientiane (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Laosheld a banquet in Vientiane on August 31 celebrating the 73rd anniversary of National Day of Vietnam (September 2).

Speaking at the reception, Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung recalledthe historical event on September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh square in Hanoi whenPresident Ho Chi Minh delivered the Independence Declaration, declaring to theworld the independence and birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now theSocialist Republic of Vietnam.

He added that Vietnam and Laos successfully held the Year of Solidarity andFriendship celebrating the 55th anniversary of bilateral diplomaticties and the 40th anniversary of the signing of Vietnam – LaosTreaty of Amity and Cooperation with diverse activities last year.

Vietnam remains one of the largest investors and tradepartners of Laos. Cooperation in education-training, human resourcesdevelopment, national defence-security, diplomacy, and social safety and orderhave been strengthened, he stressed.

The ambassador affirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State andpeople are always fully aware that during the cause of national constructionand defence, Vietnam has always been receiving valuable support ofinternational friends, especially fraternal Lao Party, State and people.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Party, State and people, Hung expressed sincerethanks to the Lao fellows for standing united with and assisting Vietnam overthe past years.

A similar event was also held in Mozambique on August 30.-VNA

NA Standing Committee inspects election preparations in Ca Mau

In Ca Mau, 13 candidates have been introduced for the National Assembly, 73 for the provincial People’s Council, and 1,469 for commune-level People’s Councils. The provincial election committee has designated five NA constituencies and 18 constituencies for People’s Councils at provincial and commune levels.
