Hanoi (VNA) – As of November 10, a total of 18,589 government buildings and land sites subject to restructuring had been processed nationwide, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF).
Of these, 1,059 facilities was allocated for healthcare purposes; 4,992 for education; 1,383 for cultural and sports activities; and 9,141 for use as offices or premises for administrative agencies and public non-business units.
A further 9,914 facilities remain under review and require continued handling, the ministry said, adding that local authorities are still updating figures in line with developments on the ground.
Nguyen Tan Thinh, Director of the ministry's Department of Public Asset Management, said the allocation and settlement of public assets have been delegated to local authorities. Within its assigned mandate, the ministry continues to fine-tune the legal framework governing the management and use of public assets, providing the regulatory basis needed to support administrative streamlining and organisational restructuring.
In its role assisting the Government in state management of public assets, the MoF has, in recent years, submitted legal documents to the National Assembly, the Government and the Prime Minister to establish the legal foundation for allocating and handling public assets. It has also reported and advised on the issuance of guiding documents to ensure effective implementation of these tasks.
On November 11, the Prime Minister signed a dispatch calling for accelerated progress in the rearrangement and handling of housing and land sites following major administrative restructuring at all levels. He emphasised the need to adjust planning and prioritise allocations for healthcare, education, culture, sports and public services, as well as determine appropriate settlement of remaining assets once these essential needs have been met.
The MoF noted that it has assigned specialised officials to monitor each locality and deployed working groups to conduct on-site inspections before, during and after the administrative restructuring process. In the coming period, the ministry will publicly disclose nationwide progress on the handling of surplus public buildings and land sites, in line with the PM’s instructions./.
