As the holiday nears, demand for the dish sour snacks is growing, creating a lively atmosphere in oriental onion growing areas.

Farmers in My Trinh, My Quang and My Tai communes in Phu My district, Binh Dinh province are busy harvesting oriental onions. Thanks to favourable weather, this year will yield a bumper crop.

Phu My district farmed 899 hectares of oriental onions in 2019, up 9 hectares compared to the previous year.

Merchants are heading to the province to buy oriental onions for wholesale. Le Thi Chung reveals that despite the lower purchasing power of merchants from the South and Central Highland regions, farmers can still earn a sizeable sum with the price this year set at around 37,000 VND per kilo.

Oriental onions are a major source of income for locals at Tet. With a bumper crop and good price this year, farmers in Binh Dinh province are looking forward to a prosperous Lunar New Year./.
