Party chief wraps up Thailand visit

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and his entourage arrived back in Hanoi on June 27, wrapping up his three-day official visit to Thailand at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Arriving in Hanoi ,Party chief Trong sent a message to the Thai Prime Minister, saying hewas pleased with the good outcomes of his visit.

Hesaid that the outcomes of the visit, especially the agreement toestablish the Thailand-Vietnam strategic partnership, the first of itskind between the two ASEAN states, will serve as solid ground to furtherfoster their bilateral ties in a more effective and comprehensivemanner for the benefit of both nations, peace, stability, cooperationand development in the region.

He expressed hiswishes that under the reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the dearsighted leadership of the Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra–led RoyalGovernment, Thailand continues growing in a stronger and morecomprehensive manner, and promoting its increasingly important role inthe region and the world.

As part of his visit toThailand , the General Secretary visited Nakhon Phanom, a northeasternprovince of Thailand, where he was led to the Thailand-Vietnamfriendship village, a memorial area where late President Ho Chi Minhstayed in July 1928 and where a Vietnamese community lives in the hostlocality.

At a gathering with a host of Vietnameseexpatriates, Trong reaffirmed that the Party and State’s policies paygreat attention to overseas Vietnamese, considering them as an integralpart of the Vietnamese nation.

He said he hopes theoverseas Vietnamese in Thailand will unceasingly promote patriotictradition and national pride, play active roles in the host localities’socio-economic development and serve as a bridge to further elevate thefriendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The Party chief presented a 30 billion VND fund to provincialauthorities to construct a memorial dedicated to late President Ho ChiMinh in the locality.

Later, Trong met with theprovincial governor Anukun Angkankulchai. Both sides expressed hope thatthe cooperative links between Nakhon Phanom province and otherlocalities of Vietnam will be broadened in the time to come, makingpractical contributions to facilitating the new strategic partnershipagreement.

The guest thanked the host for creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese people living and working there.

Since diplomatic ties were established in August 1976, economic andtrade ties between Vietnam and Thailand have grown, particularlyin rice production and exports, finance, transport and oil and gas.

In 2012, two-way trade hit8.62 billion USD. Thailand now ranks tenth out of Vietnam ’s 96investors with 300 projects worth a total of 6.11 billion USD. Vietnamhas invested in seven projects in Thailand with a total capital of11.35 million USD.-VNA
