Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – Party General Secretary To Lam visited and extended Lunar New Year (Tet) greetings to veteran researcher Nguyen Dinh Tu – a distinguished scholar who has made significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values – at his residence in Binh Thanh ward, Ho Chi Minh City, on February 9.
General Secretary Lam warmly inquired about the health and living conditions of researcher Tu and his family, expressing deep appreciation for the scholar’s valuable contributions to research, documentation and the education of younger generations, which have enriched the spiritual and cultural life of the community.
He affirmed that Tu is a shining example of lifelong learning, dedication and tireless service to society and the nation.
The Party leader also noted that the Party and the State have consistently paid attention to the well-being of the elderly, with practical policies in place to honour exemplary individuals who live healthy, meaningful lives and make worthy contributions to society.
In the warm and intimate atmosphere, Tu expressed his deep emotion and gratitude for the care shown by Party and State leaders. He voiced his delight at witnessing the country’s renewal and development in recent years and expressed confidence that under the Party’s wise leadership, the nation will continue to advance while the people’s living standards steadily improve.
Researcher Tu, born in 1920, is the author of numerous valuable scholarly works. At the age of 20, he published his first article on a newspaper and maintained a consistent research career thereafter. His notable studies on place names, rich in academic content, include Land and People of Phu Yen, Land and People of Khanh Hoa, Land and People of Ninh Thuan, Administrative Geography of Southern Provinces under French Rule (1859–1954), Inner-city Streets of Ho Chi Minh City, and Catalogue of Communal and Village Names in the South. His historical works include The French Colonial Regime in Cochinchina (1859–1954) and Gia Dinh – Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City: A Long Historical Journey (1698–2020)./.
