Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited the central province of Quang Ngai on Jan. 14-15 on the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
Meeting with Quang Ngai province’s leaders on Jan. 15, the Party chief praised the provincial authorities and people for the achievements in socio-economic development, ensuring defence and security and building the Party and the political system, contributing to the country’s common revolutionary cause.
He said that over the past year, Quang Ngai has recorded encouraging successes, with a per-capita GDP exceeding 1,400 USD per year and budget collection reaching over 17.5 trillion VND in 2011.
The operation of the Dung Quat oil refinery at full capacity helped speed up the province’s socio-economic development, generate more jobs and improve the living standards for local residents, he added.
On the same day, General Secretary Trong visited and offered incense at the Memorial Site of the late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong in Duc Tan commune, Mo Duc district.
Earlier, the Party leader paid a Tet visit to the authorities and people of Hanh Thinh commune, which leads Nghia Hanh district in building newly-styled rural areas.
On Jan. 14, General Secretary Trong visited Son Tinh district’s Tinh Ky commune, which boasts 85 percent of its population living on aquaculture./.
