The Phu Quoc island district of southern Kien Giang province needs morethan 6,000 qualified workers serving its tourism sector.
The need becomes more urgent as Phu Quoc will put into use many hi-endresorts and four or five-star hotels, with more than 2,000 rooms, bylate 2014 and in early 2015, according to Huynh Quang Hung, ViceChairman of the district People’s Committee.
Tourismbusinesses recruiting and giving on-the-spot training to locallabourers is one of the measures to address the issue, he suggested.
The number of tourists to Phu Quoc is expected to surge, following theenactment of a policy to grant 30-day visa exemption for foreignpassport holders, Hung said.
With 7-10 flightsbetween Russia and Phu Quoc a day, the arrivals of Europeanvisitors, particularly Russians, are soaring. The district is planningto launch more international air routes.
Hungnoted that Phu Quoc will work to tap its potential in maritime andeco-tourism along with reducing service fees there.
Acurrent 50-60 percent drop in electricity price is also a goodcondition for the district to cut down its service charge.
Currently, 174 tourism projects are underway in Phu Quoc, including 82licensed with a total investment of 92 trillion VND (4.88 billion USD).
The district has 125 hotels and accommodation places and 75 vessels to serve sightseeing tours.-VNA
