Mahabharata, a physical theatre performance, will be performed in Hanoi on July 16 as part of activities to celebrate the 40 th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation as well as the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Year 2013.

According to a press release from the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam on July 2, the performance is sponsored by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs.

The ancient Indian epic originally written in Sanskrit will be performed through physical movements along with some music and a summary of the story on screen.

The epic is brought to the stage by Japanese director Hiroshi Koike, and is performed by Japanese, Cambodian and Malaysian artists.

Mahabharata is regarded as the Hindu Bible, a treasure of ancient wisdom and the source of Indian philosophy, morals, politics and law.
