Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has called for further efforts to boost the implementation of the existing cooperation mechanism between Vietnam and India as well as set up a new mechanism for bilateral cooperation.

While receiving Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the 15 th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits on October 25 in Cha-am Hua Hin, Thailand, PM Dung spoke highly of the cooperation with India in the fields of economics, equipment transfer, technology and education and training.

The two leaders also expressed their delight at the development of the strategic partnership between Vietnam and India, especially in economics, trade and investment.

Indian PM Manmohan Singh said that the government and people of India always attach much importance to its strategic partnership with Vietnam. The Indian businesses are interested in making investment in the Southeast Asian nation.

However, the Indian PM added, the two sides should further their ties in the fields of trade, investment, national defence and security.

He also said it is hoped that Vietnam, in its capacity as ASEAN chair in 2010, will support India’s efforts to boost relations with ASEAN.

After the meeting between the two leaders, they attended a signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding, under which India recognised Vietnam’s fully economic market./.
