Vietnam considers information and communications technology (ICT) to be its key industry in its national industrialisation and modernisation process, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has said.

Vietnam aims to develop a powerful ICT sector, PM Dung said in Hanoi on June 18 while receiving a delegation from the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO) led by Chairman Looi Kien Leong.

The PM praised ASOCIO for selecting Vietnam as the venue for the 2010 ASOCIO Summit, and spoke highly of the cooperation between ASOCIO and the Vietnam Software Association (VINASA).

ASOCIO Chairman Looi Kien Leong congratulated Vietnam on its remarkable ICT achievements, saying that during the 2010, ASOCIO Summit in Vietnam, which run from June 17-20, ASOCIO will share with Vietnam and other regional countries its experience in devising and implementing ICT development policies.
