Indonesia seizes one tonne of crystal meth smuggled from China

Indonesian authorities on July 13 said the country’s police, in cooperation with Taiwanese-Chinese police, have seized one tonne of crystal methamphetamine attempted to be smuggled to the country from China.

Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesian authoritieson July 13 said the country’s police, in cooperation with Taiwanese-Chinesepolice, have seized one tonne of crystal methamphetamine attempted to besmuggled to the country from China.

Two Taiwanese nationals were arrested while onewas shot to death and another was still at large when Indonesian police seizedthe drug in a crackdown at a pier in Serang, Banten province, bordering the capitalcity of Jakarta, after two-month investigation.

The drug was found packed into 51 boxes put intwo minivans.

This is the biggest seizure in Southeast Asiaand also the biggest in Indonesia since 840 kilos of crystal methamphetaminesmuggled from China were captured in 2015.

The detainees could be sentenced to death ifbeing convicted of drug smuggling.-VNA
