Indonesia, Turkey begin CEPA negotiations

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia and Turkey have officially started negotiations of the Indonesia-Turkey Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IT-CEPA) during Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s state visit to Turkey.

Indonesian Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita and Turkish Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci signed the documents to launch the IT-CEPA negotiations, which was witnessed by President Joko Widodo and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after their meeting on July 6, reported Antara News.

Indonesia and Turkey have agreed to recover positive trends of trade and investment through the negotiations, President Joko Widodo said at a joint press conference.

The two countries also approved to cut down and remove trade barriers, as well as create favourable investment climate, he added.

The Indonesian President encouraged Turkey to increase investment in Indonesia, especially in maritime, infrastructure and energy.

Besides, the two sides will enhance cooperation in intelligence exchange to fight against terrorism.-VNA
