Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang hosted a reception for LaoNational Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Sengnouane Xayalath in Hanoi on July 18,during which he hailed the effective partnership between the legislatures ofthe two nations.

The State leader praised Laos’s important achievements, especially insocio-economic development, defence, security, foreign affairs, which have improvedliving conditions of the Lao people and raised the country’s position in theregion and the international arena.

He congratulated Laos on the success of the sixth meeting of the 10thCentral Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the fifth sessionof the 8th National Assembly.

Showing his delight at the development of the Vietnam-Laos traditionalfriendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, President Quang saidthat he is pleased at the effective partnership between the two legislative agenciesthrough the exchange of information and experience in legislation, supervisionand deciding important issues of each country.

The two sides have coordinated very well in their external affairs, especiallyin the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), the International ParliamentaryUnion (IPU), and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), thus helping topromote peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and theworld.

For his part, Sengnouane Xayalath briefed his host on the major outcomesof cooperation between the NAs of Vietnam and Laos over the past years, alongwith orientations for the expansion of cooperation areas in the future and thesharing of NA supervision activities.

The two sides have agreed on a plan to monitor and examine issues relatedto free migrants and undocumented marriage in border localities of the twocountries, he said, adding that they will also review the bilateral cooperationbetween the two NAs and regional and international parliamentary forums.

On the occasion, the Lao NA Vice Chairman thanked the Party, State, and NAof Vietnam for funding the construction of a new National Assembly House for Laos,saying that the present shows the close sentiment between the two countries.

President Quang expressed his delight at the outcomes of the earliertalks and meetings between Sengnouane Xayalath and Vietnamese leaders, stressingthat the reached agreements are an important foundation for Vietnam and Laos todeepen bilateral relations in a more practical manner.

Consenting to the orientations for the expansion of cooperation betweenthe two NAs, the President said the two sides should not only step up theexchange of experiences in legislation and supervision but also strengthencoordination in regional and international multilateral parliamentary forums.

He suggested the two legislatures focus on enhancing supervision and facilitatinginvestment cooperation projects between the two countries, thus serving the socio-economicdevelopment in both nations, while supporting necessary amendments in policies,mechanisms and laws to promote the bilateral partnership in trade andinvestment.

The two sides should work closely together to speed up the effectiveimplementation of a memorandum of understanding on the National Assembly Houseof Laos to ensure the quality and progress of the project, he said.

President Quang asked the two sides to increase people-to-people exchangesto promote the achievements of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year2017, while increasing communications, especially among the youth, about theloyal relations between Vietnam and Laos, which he described as a rarerelationship and a invaluable asset of both nations as well as a foundation forthe two countries to thrive together.-VNA
