(Source: VNA)HCM City (VNA)– Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has applauded Ho Chi Minh City-based Cho RayHospital for its efforts to apply technical advancements in medical check-upand treatment, as well as its renovations in management, especiallyself-finance mechanism.
He made the appraisal whilevisiting Cho Ray Hospital, one of the leading hospitals in the southern region,on February 24 on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors’Day (February 27).
The PM said the number of 1.5million people using Cho Ray Hospital’s services in 2017 has reflected itsprestige, particularly in the southern region.
The leader used the occasionto call on doctors and health workers nationwide to overcome difficulties andlimitations in order to better meet public demands for health care.
Greater efforts should bemade to deal with shortcomings relating to medical ethics, patients overload inhospitals, antibiotic abuse, administrative reform, medical equipment andmedicine management, and security and safety in hospitals, he stressed.
PM Phuc urged the healthsector to review, amend and supplement suitable mechanisms and policies toencourage different economic sectors to invest in health care, thus helpingimprove the quality of medical check-up and treatment.
Established in 1900, ChoRay Hospital was one of the first public hospitals nationwide to establish aself-mechanism in 2010. Cho Ray Hospitalis one of the four health centres recognised as special hospital, together withVietnam-Germany Hospital and Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi, and Hue CentralHospital in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
With 4,000 staff, thehospital admitted patients from 23 southern cities and provinces. During therecent Tet holiday, which lasted from February 14-20, it received nearly 2,200patients.
In 2017, Cho Ray Hospital recorded notedachievements, including the adoption of a robot-assisted system to performcomplex minimally invasive surgery.
This is the third hospitalin Vietnam that has applied the most advanced medical technology, according toLuong Ngoc Khue, head of the Ministry of Health’s Medical Examination andTreatment Department.
Doctors at Cho Ray Hospital also successfullyperformed organ transplants for four patients from an 18-year-old girl renderedbrain-dead by a traffic accident.
It is thefirst time that Cho Ray Hospital doctors have performed a heart transplant andthe second time they were doing a liver transplant, thanks to technologytransfer from the Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi, a leading institution for surgeryin Vietnam, and the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s ASAN Medical Centre.
