Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc meets with UN leaders

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on September 28 (Vietnam time) had separate meetings with President of the UN General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on September 28(Vietnam time) had separate meetings with President of the UN General AssemblyMaria Fernanda Espinosa Garces and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres aspart of his activities during the 73rd Sessionof the UN General Assembly in New York.

Meeting with Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces, PM Phuc affirmed that Vietnamattaches importance to relations with the UN, and supports the central roleplayed by the UN.

He suggested the UN prioritise promoting preventive diplomacy, and support thesettlement of of disputes in the East Sea by peaceful measures based oninternational law. He stressed Vietnam will contribute to the common efforts ofthe UN, and responsibly participate in UN initiatives on development and peace maintenance.

While meeting with Antonio Guterres , PM Phuc lauded the efforts of the SecretaryGeneral in reshuffling the UN, especially the UN development system, which aimsto better support member countries in implementing the Agenda  on Sustainable Development to 2030.

He expressed his hope that the UN will continue supporting Vietnam in implementingsustainable development goals (SDGs) and the Paris agreement on climate change.

For his part, Guterres thanked Vietnam for its contributions to performing theUN’s work as well as initiatives to reform the forum’s operation, saying thathe hopes Vietnam will continue to lead in achieving SDGs.

He also expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s recent socio-economicachievements, affirming that the UN will continue to support Vietnam on its wayto realising SDGs.

The UN Secretary General voiced concern about East Sea-related issues, whileasserting the UN’s consistent policy of supporting the settlement of  disputes peacefully and in line withinternational law. -VNA

NA Standing Committee's key work agenda for 2026 approved

A major focus will be preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th NA and to People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term. The NASC will coordinate with the National Election Council, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and relevant agencies and organisations to continue implementing the election plan, organise oversight of the electoral process, and carry out its duties and powers as prescribed.
