Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of VietnamNguyen Phu Trong has stressed the need to prioritise perfecting thesocialist-oriented market economic institution in 2018 following the Resolutionof the 12th tenure Party Central Committee’s fifth plenary meeting.

2018 will be the year deciding the success of theimplementation of five-year socio-economic development targets set by the 12thNational Party Congress, Trong stated at the Government’s teleconference withlocalities on December 28.

Therefore, while making, promulgating and implementingpolicies and mechanisms, it is necessary to be aware of, respect and make useof objective rules of the market economy and international practices in orderto ensure socialist orientation conforms with the nation’s developmentconditions.

The State plays a role of orienting, building and improvingeconomic institutions, creating an equal, transparent and healthy competitiveenvironment, while using its tools, policies and resources to orient andregulate the economy, boosting business and production, protecting naturalresources and the environment and developing cultural and social fields, Trongsaid.

He emphasised the necessity to thoroughly grasp the Party’sstances and policies on restructuring the economy in line with growth modelreform, and increasing labour productivity and competitiveness of the economy.

It is essential to carry out the Party’s resolutions onbasically and comprehensively reforming education and training, intensify humanresources development and information and technology application, and pay moreattention to improving policies toward those who rendered service to the nationand implementing sustainable poverty reduction and social welfare ensuringmeasures.

The Party chief said that it is a must to protect independence,sovereignty and territorial integrity, ensure political security, social orderand safety, and effectively implement foreign work and internationalintegration, better citizen protection work and create favourable conditionsfor overseas Vietnamese to contribute to the nation building cause.

He asked for the continued building of Party and politicalsystem, stricter implementation of thrift practice and anti-wastefulness and strictersolution to corruption cases.-VNA
