The central province of Quang Ngai’s steering committee forcattle and poultry disease prevention culled 12,000 A/H5N6 infectedbirds on December 18.
The infected birds were traced back to apoultry farm in Tinh Ha commune, Son Tinh district. This is the fourthH5N6 bird flu virus case in the province.
Despite beingvaccinated, the quails were found dead without reason on December 14 andtheir samples were tested positive for the virus.
In order toprevent the virus from spreading, local authorities promptly destroyedthe infected birds and sterilised poultry farms in the district whileencouraging residents not to consume infected poultry products.
To date, local authorities have implemented a number of measures toprevent the outbreak of the virus and prevent poultry-to humantransmission.
According to the World Health Organisation,A/H5N6 is a highly pathogenic strain but there is no evidence ofsustained human-to-human transmission despite occasional instances ofapparent inflection between family members.-VNA
