Quang Ninh: APhO bronze medalist commended

QuangNinh (VNA) - Le Ky Nam, a 12th grader from Ha Long High School for the Gifted in the northern province of Quang Ninh, has been commended and rewarded for hisexcellent achievement in the recently-concluded 19th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO 2018) in Hanoi.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Docpresented a certificate of merit and prize money of 52 million VND (2,290 USD) toNam at a commendation ceremony in the locality on May 16.

Nam, a bronze medalist, is one of eight Vietnamese students who won medals inthe competition.

His achievement is the pride of Quang Ninh province’seducation sector as this is the first time a local student has won a prize at anevent of this kind.

The eight-member Vietnamese delegation won four gold, two silver and two bronze medals at theAPhO 19, which concluded on May 12.

This year, the organising board presented 33 gold, 13 silver and 24 bronzemedals and nine special prizes to contestants.

The Ministry of Education and Training affirmed Vietnam’s resultshowed the quality of high school education in Vietnam and work to nurturetalented students.

The ministry will select the best among these eight winners totake part in the Global Physics Olympiad 2018.

In the previous competition in Yakutsk, Russiafrom May 1-9, 2017, Vietnam grabbed one gold, three silvers and threecertificates of merit.

Held annually since 2000, the APhO aims to encourage and promotehigh-school student to cultivate knowledge related to science, technology, engineering andmathematics (STEM), as well as important subjects serving the 4th industrialrevolution in Asia and in each regional country.-VNA

Two wanted for abusing religious cover to undermine national unity policy

The fugitives are Di (also known as Siu Di), born in 1941, and Dinh Yum (also known as Dinh Jum or Ba Koih), born in 1963, from Ba Na ethnic minority group in Gia Lai province, and hold Vietnamese nationality. They have been charged under Clause 1, Article 116 of the Penal Code for undermining the national unity policy.

Support delivered to Khmer households for traditional New Year
