Hanoi (VNA) – Russian media on June 29 ran articleshighlighting the ongoing visit by President Tran Dai Quang, saying that hisfirst visit to Russia aims to further deepen bilateral comprehensive strategicpartnership.

The TASS news agency featured talks between President Quangand President Vladimir Putin, during which the two leaders discussed the recentcomplicated developments in the East Sea and agreed that border and territorialdisputes, including the East Sea dispute, should be settled by peaceful meanswithout the use of force or threat to use force, in line with internationallaw.

Meanwhile, the Sputnik news agency said during talks lastingmore than two hours, host and guest discussed cooperation in diverse areas, witha focus on economy with joint investment projects worth 10 billion USD.

Covering a meeting between the Vietnamese President and Chairmanof the Russian Federation Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov, Sputnik saidZyuganov hailed Vietnam as a trustworthy ally and vowed to do the best tostrengthen ties with the country.

The Kremlin press agency said it is the first visit byPresident Quang, who represents the country on international arena to signtrans-national agreements.

In an interview granted to RT television, Assoc. Prof. PetrTsvetov from the Diplomatic Academy of Russian Foreign Ministry said Russia andVietnam established diplomatic ties in 1950, which have thrived since 2001 whenPresident Putin visited Vietnam and signed a joint statement on strategicpartnership between the two countries.

High on the visit’s agenda is economic collaboration withattention being paid to oil and gas, mechanical engineering and militarytechnology.

Tsvetov noted that Vietnam is significant to Russia as alaunching pad to Southeast Asia.

If Russia wants to strengthen its position in SoutheastAsia, it should develop ties with Vietnam, he said, adding that Vietnam is themost potential country for Russia’s cooperation in ASEAN thanks to their traditionalfriendship since the Soviet era.

According to him, the visit also affords both Presidents achance to exchange views on global issues.-VNA
