Sai Gon Guitar festival opens

Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) -Sai Gon International Guitar Festival 2015 opened the first show in Ho Chi Minh City on November 11.

Themed Guitar Dances, the opening concert gathered Vietnam’s Saigon Guitar Quartet, and guitarists from the US, Japan, France and Thailand, including Rene Izquierdo – a professor at University of Wisconsin, Kozo Tate – the winner of the Guitar Foundation of Japan Contest in 1975, and Padet Netpakdee – the winner of the Thailand International Guitar Competition in 2009.

On the night of November 12, young Vietnamese guitarists who were selected by international judges from an online competition will showcase their skills on the stage.

Other world famous artists will perform in other festival concerts, including Jeremy Jouve – a French winner of the 2003 Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) award, the world’s most prestigious guitar competition; Anton Baranov from Russia – who won the GFA award in 2013; and French Vietnamese artist Nguyen Thanh Hang.

This is the second time the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music has hosted the event to enable young musicians to broaden their horizons.-VNA
