Hanoi (VNA) – The second national congress of ethnic minority groups will be held in three days sometime around the end of the first quarter or beginning of the second quarter of 2020.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recently signed a decision approving a plan to hold the third congresses of ethnic minority groups at district and provincial levels in 2019 and the second national congress in 2020.
The national-level congress will aim to recognise contributions by ethnic minority groups towards poverty reduction, new-style rural area building, infrastructure development, implementation of ethnic policies, national building and protection, and international integration.
It will offer a chance to honour outstanding individuals and units in ethnic minority groups during the 2009-2019 period, assess the implementation of ethnic affairs in the period, and seek ways to perfect ethnic policies for 2021-2025 with a vision to 2030.
Delegates to the event are outstanding individuals from all walks of life, representing 53 ethnic minority groups of Vietnam.
Head of the Steering Committee for the National Congress is Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, while Minister-Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Do Van Chien is its deputy head.
The district-level ethnic minority congresses will be held in one day, finishing before June 30, 2019, while the provincial-level ethnic minority congresses will take place over one and a half days, finishing before November 30, 2019.
