Singapore and the Philippines had reached a consensus on holding an annual defense dialogue between their senior officials in a bid to consolidate bilateral defense cooperation.

The agreement was made during a meeting between Singaporean Defense Minister, Ng Eng Hen, and his Philippine counterpart, Vontaire T Gazmin.

According to Singapore’s Ministry of Defense, the two sides focused on discussing the maintenance of regional peace which is threatening by the disputes in the East Sea between China and the Philippines and other ASEAN countries.

Minister Ng Eng Hen said Singapore will comply with the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) signed by ASEAN and China in 2002 and solutions for the disputes needed to base on diplomatic initiatives.

Both ministers agreed to further their defense ties not only at a series of bilateral dialogues but also at relevant regional multilateral forums such as the ASEAN Defence Minister Meeting-Plus (ADMM+).

The two sides’ first talks will be held in 2015.-VNA
