Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Krabi province on southern Thailand's west coast has welcomed passengers on the first Kunming - Krabi flight at its airport.

Krabi Chamber of Commerce CEO Sirithorn Junchu and Krabi International Airport Director Attaporn Nuangudom welcomed a total of 161 passengers who traveled on the inaugural flight from Kunming in southern China to the southern province.

The flight was operated by Chinese carrier Lucky Airlines with a Boeing 737 aircraft.

Tourism Authority of Thailand's Krabi Office Director Apichai Aranyik said the number of Chinese visitors to Thailand has been increasing constantly over the past five years following the popular Lost in Thailand film, making Chinese visitors the biggest tourist group in Krabi.

He said Krabi province is able to deliver experiences for many tourists who are looking for quality activities in small groups, thanks to its world-class scenic natural attractions. The province is also home to tasty and fresh seafood, while local cultures and hospitalities certainly make enormous impressions to all visitors.

The number of visitors from China to Thailand has dropped following a boat accident in Phuket in July as well as other factors which have hindered their confidence.

Krabi province is anticipating direct flights from Kunming to bring in more visitors, while local authorities and businesses are aiming to give the warmest welcome to guests, with the hope that they will return after their first trip. - NNT/VNA
