Geneva (VNA) – The Swiss Party of Labour held a ceremony onSeptember 21 to celebrate 75th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day.

Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Le Linh Lan recalledthe country’s significant milestones since President Ho Chi Minh read theDeclaration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now theSocialist Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945.

She also laid stress on highlights in the Vietnam-Switzerland cooperation tiessince they set up diplomatic relations in 1971, saying the ties have grown upacross areas from politics to economics and cooperation for development.

She expressed her gratitude and thanked the Swiss Party of Labour fororganising this ceremony, saying it is important to deepen traditionalfriendship and solidarity between the two peoples.

Honorary Chairwoman of the Swiss Party of Labour Anjuska Weil told Vietnam NewsAgency correspondents in Geneva that Vietnam has grown in stature as aprosperous nation in the region and the world.

She said that the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Swiss Party of Labour haveenjoyed sound relations, solidarity and friendship.

Regarding the Vietnamese Government’s efforts in the fight against the COVID-19pandemic, Weil said she was impressed by the country’s good control of the disease,and hoped that due attention will continue to be paid to poor and vulnerablepeople.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland presented medical masksto the Swiss Party of Labour, supporting the party to cope with the COVID-19pandemic.

Ambassador Lan underscored Vietnam’s efforts to protect its citizens amidst theongoing outbreak, saying the country documented 1,068 COVID-19 cases, including35 deaths, and saw no new cases in 19 consecutive days.

Due to the global economic recession, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) cuteconomic growth forecast for Vietnam to 1.8 percent in 2020. However, the bankstill hailed Vietnam as one of the best performers in the world thanks to thegovernment’s success in controlling the spread of COVID-19, and among the firstcountries to fully reopen its domestic economy, Lan said./.
