Sydney (VNA) – Lord Mayor of Australia’sSydney Clover Moore launched the city’s biggest ever celebrations on January 29to mark the Lunar New Year with a line-up of exciting events for all.
The Sydney Lunar Festival will take place fromFebruary 1-10 at famous landmarks like the Opera House, Circular Quay, PittStreet, China Garden, and Chinatown. It is expected to attract upwards of 1.3million international visitors.
The festival will include the popular Lunar Lanterns exhibition, performancesby a cross-section of Sydney’s Asian communities, Chinatown celebrations,dragon boat races, food offerings, lion dancing, and even an attempt atrecording a new Guinness World Record.
Earlier, the municipal council renamed the SydneyChinese New Year as the Sydney Lunar New Year as part of its agenda to expandthe event.
“The Sydney Lunar Festival will embrace allcommunities and cultures, whether or not they use the lunar calendar, andcreate new opportunities for the event’s further development,” the council saidin a statement. –VNA
