Thai army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha on May 21 convened a meeting with representatives from main groups involved in the country’s prolonged crisis, but it failed to reach any result.

The meeting was attended by representatives from both the ruling and opposition parties, the Election Commission, the Senate as well as leaders of both pro-government and anti-government movements.

Prayuth Chan-ocha requested that another meeting be held on May 22.

The May 21 meeting took place one day after the Thai army had declared martial law across the country in order to restore order.

Prayuth Chan-ocha affirmed the move is not a coup and called on the public not to panic.-VNA
