Bangkok (VNA) – Women are an important force in driving Thailand’s development, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha declared in a televised speech marking International Women’s Day on March 8.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said the Prime Minister hopes to create opportunities for everybody, especially women who account for more than half of the country’s population.

“The government is promoting women’s role in society and calling on all sectors to change their attitudes towards women,” Anucha quoted Prayut as saying.

The government aims to promote women of all ages to participate in economic and social development to create gender equality in the country, he said.

On the occasion of Women’s Day, the PM wishes Thai women happiness, good health, and success.

The United Nations officially recognised March 8 as International Women’s Day in 1977./.
