Bangkok (VNA) – More than 180 tourism events are planned across Thailand up to September 2018, as part of the Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018 campaign that targets three trillion baht (90.5 billion USD) in revenue, according to local media on November 6.

Most of the events will be designed to promote unique local activities and traditional stories.

They will be divided into 16 groups such as sports, gastronomy, marine tourism, wedding, healthcare and relaxation, ASEAN connectivity, culture, green tourism, night tourism, entertainment, MICE, and community-based tourism (CBT).

The ministry will also form a committee so as to strengthen a new tourism campaign and create a tourism calendar with events, posting it on the website www.amazingthailand.go.th.

The National Committee for Tourism Policy said it will help enhance the quality of local street foods and improve hygiene at major tourist attractions to meet international standards.

Thailand and Laos will collaborate to develop cross-border tourism by building a new route linking Loei province with Laos. The two countries will help promote and strengthen CBT, which is becoming more popular among international tourists.

This year a CBT business matching event is set to take place in London at the World Travel Mart on November 6-8.

Foreign arrivals this year as of October 29 increased 6.56 percent year-on-year to 28.64 million. Foreign tourists generated income of 1.45 trillion baht (43.7 billion USD), up 9.02 percent from the same period last year.

In October, visitors increased 20.2 percent and contributed revenue of 129.8 billion baht (3.9 billion USD).

The government aims for 35 million visitors next year, an increase from 34 million forecast for this year.-VNA
