Thailand and Indonesia plan to ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU)on fishery cooperation during Thai Minister for Agriculture YukolLimlamthong’s visit to Indonesia slated for this year’s end, accordingto the National News Bureau of Thailand.
Speaking at a recentreception for Indonesian Foreign Minister R.M. Marty M. Natalegawa inThailand, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has said the ThaiGovernment will work closely with Indonesia in the fishery field tobring sustainable benefits to both sides.
On the occasion,Yingluck also extended her gratitude to Indonesia for its scholarshipsprovided for Thai students living in the South of Thailand, adding thatthe knowledge the students have gained will be beneficial to thesouthern region’s development as well as help promote peace in the area.
The two countries recently also agreed to enhance bilateralcooperation in many fields such as economics, trade, tourism andinvestment.
They have signed a series of important cooperationagreements in the last three years, including MoUs on education, legalaffairs, anti-corruption and trade.
Two-way tradebetween the two countries has been significantly increasing over thelast decade, up from 3 billion USD in 2002 to 19 billion USD in 2012.Indonesia is now the second largest ASEAN trade partner of Thailand.-VNA
