Thailand prepares for outcomes of the ICJ ruling on Preah Vihear

The Thai Army Chief has said local people will be able to accept the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the prolonged dispute over the area near Preah Vihear temple between Thailand and Cambodia , expressing his belief that there will be no violent incidents.

Army Commander in Chief General PrayuthChan-Ocha on October 23 said that the case will reach its critical pointon November 11 when the ICJ announces its ruling.

Heconfirmed that the army is ready for any situation, saying that he hasinstructed authorities along the Thai-Cambodian border to step upsecurity measures.

In addition, he also urged officialsto inform the locals of the latest development and the nation's stance,in order to ensure their safety.

As for the relations betweenthe two nations, the bond of Thailand and Cambodia remains strong,citing continued talks between their officials, especially militaryofficials, along the borderline.

He also assured thepublic that the ICJ's ruling on the case will not affect the militaryrelations of the two countries, expressing his belief that there will beno violence as an aftermath. He, however, hoped the people will be ableto accept the outcome, regardless of how it is.-VNA/NNT
