According to Deputy Minister ofAgriculture and Cooperatives Siriwat Kajornprasart, a strategy to thateffect has been devised since October 2012, giving emphasis to foodquality control, sustainable production of marine lives and processedproducts, and research and development to reduce costs
Under the strategy, quality control measures will be improved to matchthe global standards in every step of production to give the competitiveedge to the exports of Thai seafood products.
The DeputyMinister said the establishment of cooperation between Thailand andother ASEAN nations is also included in the strategic plan to conservemarine populations while being able to sustain the production ofseafood.
Joint fishing ventures will be promoted amongASEAN members while world-class exhibitions will be organised in thecountry to publicise Thai seafood products to the world.
Fisheries bring in 200 billion THB in revenue to Thailand annually, accounting for 1.5 percent of the GDP.-VNA/NNT
