Top legislator meets with leaders from Ministry of Public Security

The top legislator hailed the police force’s contributions to the country's achievements in 2024, underscoring their fundamental role in maintaining political security and social order as well as working alongside the military to protect the nation in the new situation.

Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a working session with a delegation from the Ministry of Public Security led by Minister General Luong Tam Quang in Hanoi on February 4.

At the event, the top legislator hailed the police force’s contributions to the country's achievements in 2024, underscoring their fundamental role in maintaining political security and social order as well as working alongside the military to protect the nation in the new situation.

The ministry has demonstrated remarkable success in crime prevention and control, particularly in combating drug-related offences and traffic violations. Particularly, there were significant reductions in the number of traffic accidents across all metrics during the 2025 Tet holiday.

Man went on to commend the ministry for taking the lead in streamlining the organisational structure while maintaining operational effectiveness.

He stated several legislative achievements in 2024, including the adoption of crucial laws drafted by the ministry, such as the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, Data Law, and Anti-Human Trafficking Law. Besides, the legislature approved a national target programme on drug prevention through 2030 with a total budget allocation of more than 22 trillion VND (874.2 million USD), and implemented a ban on the production, trade and use of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products starting in 2025.

Against the backdrop, he urged the police force to accelerate communications work on the new regulations and policies.

Looking ahead, NA Chairman Man called for intensified efforts in crime prevention during 2025-2030, particularly in drug-related offences. With 2025 marking the 80th founding anniversary of the People's Public Security Force, he expressed his hope that the ministry will excellently fulfil its entrusted missions, making contributions to the parliament’s law-making work and oversight as well as the national construction and protection.

He took the occasion to extend his Tet greetings to all public security officers and their families.

Minister Quang, for his part, reported on the ministry's successful maintenance of security and social order during the Tet holiday and affirmed the ministry’s commitment to concretising all assigned missions./.
