With Vietnam’s strength, international position and reputation increasingly enhanced, the confidence and national pride of each overseas Vietnamese (OV) has been continuously consolidated, Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for OV Affairs Pham Quang Hieu told the media on the occasion of the 48th National Reunification Day (April 30).

Hanoi (VNA) - With Vietnam’s strength, internationalposition and reputation increasingly enhanced, the confidence and nationalpride of each overseas Vietnamese (OV) has been continuously consolidated, DeputyForeign Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for OV Affairs Pham QuangHieu told the media on the occasion of the 48th National ReunificationDay (April 30).

Hieu said that thanks to the due attention of the Party andState, the active participation of ministries, sectors, socio-political organisationsand localities, the engagement of the entire people, the work of great solidarityand national concord over the past time has achieved many important results.

One of those is that the awareness andsense of responsibility in implementing this work from both domestic agenciesand the OV community have had positive changes, he said.

The work on overseas Vietnamese has also achieved substantiveresults, with the making of related mechanisms, policies and laws implemented concertedlyand effectively.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has actively coordinatedwith central and local agencies, ministries, sectors and socio-political organisationsto persistently implement the work of great solidarity and national concord throughregular activities associated with major national holidays, in order to supportand encourage Vietnamese people living abroad to contribute to the homeland.

During their foreign trips, or on occasions when OVs returnhome, Party and State leaders always meet them and listen to theiropinions, thoughts and aspirations, and direct domestic agencies to promptly satisfy their legitimate aspirations.

In addition, many policies have been issued to create favourableconditions for OVs to return home to work, invest and do business, and many activities regularly organised to connect them with the homeland.

In the coming time, the ministry will activelycoordinate with other ministries, localities and socio-political organisationsto continue raising awareness and sense of responsibility in the effectiveimplementation of the Party and State’s policy of great national unity with OVs,added Hieu.

Currently, there are more than 5.3 million Vietnamese peopleliving, working and studying in over 130 countries and territories. They havereally become an important resource contributing to the process of building,protecting and developing the nation./.

Sharp drop seen in traffic accidents in first two months

In the first two months of 2025 (from December 15, 2024, to February 14, 2025), the total number of traffic accidents nationwide stood at 3,443, with 1,868 deaths and 2,312 injuries.
