Ninh Binh (VNA) – The United Nations (UN) Day ofVesak 2019 is scheduled to take place in Tam Chuc pagoda, Kim Bang district, inthe northern province of Ha Nam from May 12-14.
The International Council for the Day of Vesak and VietnamBuddhist Sangha held their second meeting in the northern province of Ninh Binhon January 25 to reach a consensus on preparations for the event.
Participants discussed the list of foreign guests, aninternational seminar on the day, and logistics works.
Themed “BuddhistApproach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for SustainableSocieties’, the event is expected to attract 1,500 religiousdignitaries, researchers, scientists, and managers from countries andterritories worldwide, and about 10,000 Buddhist followers and people.
This will be the third time the UN’s commemoration of Vesak isheld in Vietnam. Previously, it took place in Hanoi in 2008 and Ninh Binh in2014.
The event affirms the Party and State’s attention to citizens’religious freedom, contributing to strengthening international exchange withinthe global Buddhist community, as well as Buddhism’s contributions to dealingwith global issues.
It will also afford the global Buddhist community a chanceto raise mutual understanding and share interests from Buddhist values andtraditions.–VNA
Vietnam affirms value of Buddhism on International Day of Vesak
Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, praised the values of Buddhism during an event to celebrate the International Day of Vesak held in New York on May 2.
