US-DPRK Summit: Russian official stresses need of mutual trust recovery

Hanoi (VNA) - Secretary of RussianSecurity Council Nikolai Patrushev emphasisedthe need to recover the atmosphere of trust between the US and the DemocraticPeople’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) at their second summit in Hanoi, Vietnam onFebruary 27-28.

In an interview with the the Argumenty I Fakti (Argumentsand Facts) weekly newspaper of Russia on February 26,Patrushev  that the most important result of the summit would be the US side’s decision to follow the path of ensuring securityand easing economic pressure on the DPRK in exchange for the Northeast Asiannation’s renunciation of nuclear weapons.

The meeting between US President Donald Trump and DPRK leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi is aimed at removing those issues, which werenot resolved reached at the first summit in Singapore in June 2018, he said.

The recovery ofthe atmosphere of mutual trust between the DPRK and the US is the key forachieving peace in the Korean Peninsula, he said.
