Mexico City (VNA) – A Vietnamese delegation attended the first congress of El Salvador’s ruling Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN), taking place from November 6-8.

The event saw the presence of El Salvador President Sanchez Ceren and more than 1,800 domestic and foreign delegates representing left-wing parties and progressive organisations and movements from over 20 countries around the world.

Addressing the congress, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico and El Salvador Le Linh Lan conveyed the congratulatory message of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s Central Committee to the FMLN on the front’s historic event.

She highlighted the two parties’ solidarity and cooperation over the past three decades and informed about preparations for the CPV’s 12th national congress slated for early 2016.

The speech was welcomed by El Salvador and international delegates as illustrated through their remarks, including those of FMLN General Secretary Medardo Gonzalez, Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee Jose Ramon Balaguer, and former Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ali Rodriguez.

The first congress, held amid the front’s 35th founding anniversary, discussed and approved FMLN’s platform, strategy and party building policy, along with El Salvador’s socio-economic situation analysis report, which will serve as the foundation for FMLN’s future consolidation and development.

Concluding the function, FMLN General Secretary Medardo Gonzalez thanked massive assistance and solidarity that global left-wing parties, including the CPV, have given to his front. He also underlined FMLN’s goal of safeguarding independence and democracy and building a more equal society.-VNA
