A high-ranking military delegation led by Deputy Defence Minister, Sen.Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh is participating in the ASEAN Defence SeniorOfficials Meeting (ADSOM) and the ASEAN Defence Senior OfficialsMeeting Plus (ASDOM+) in Brunei .
During the meetings, fromMarch 31-April 5, participants discuss preparations for the agenda ofthe seventh ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM-7) slated for Maythis year and the second ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+)to be held in October of the same year, according to the Quan doi Nhandan (People’s Army) daily.
The participation in thesemeetings shows Vietnam’s proactive, energetic and responsible rolein ADMM and ADMM+ cooperation and also reflects the country’s continuousefforts to protect national interests as well as the interest of theregion as a whole.
The ADMM is the highest defence mechanismwithin ASEAN, which aims to promote mutual trust and confidence throughgreater understanding of defence and security challenges as well asenhancement of transparency and openness.
Vietnam’scapital city of Hanoi hosted the Inaugural ADMM-Plus on October 12,2010, during which the defence ministers agreed on several areas ofpractical cooperation to pursue.-VNA
