Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam Railways (VNR) has launched nationwide ticket sales for the Gia Lam – Nanning international passenger train service, starting July 16.

With the move, passengers are no longer required to buy tickets in person at select stations such as Hanoi, Gia Lam, Bac Giang, and Dong Dang.

The international train, MR1/T8702/Z6, departs daily at 9:20 pm from Gia Lam Station (Hanoi) and makes stops in China at Pingxiang, Chongzuo, and its final destination, Nanning.

On Tuesdays and Fridays, the service is extended to key Chinese destinations, including Guilin North, Hengyang, Changsha, Zhengzhou, and the terminal station, Beijing West.

According to VNR representatives, this move aims to simplify the ticket-purchasing process and enhance convenience for passengers travelling between Vietnam and China by rail. Expanding ticket sales to all railway stations nationwide is part of VNR’s broader strategy to improve service quality, boost accessibility, and provide optimal conditions for passengers.

After a five-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnam-China cross-border passenger train service resumed on May 25. There are two trains - MR1 and MR2 - departing from Hanoi’s Gia Lam station to China’s Nanning station and vice versa daily.

Specifically, MR1 departs from Gia Lam at 9:20 pm and arrives at Nanning at 10:06 am the next day. In the opposite direction, MR2 departs from Nanning at 6:05 pm and arrive at Gia Lam at 5:30 am the next day. Passengers will complete immigration procedures at Dong Dang - Lang Son station (Vietnam) and Pingxiang - Guangxi (China).

Over 2,700 passengers have opted for rail travel between the two countries since service resumption. The figure is expected to grow significantly with the expansion of nationwide ticketing./.
