Vietnam, France intensify defence cooperation

Vietnam and France have agreed to step up cooperation in training, military medicine, navy, defence industry and peace-keeping operations.

HCM City (VNA) – Vietnam and France have agreedto step up cooperation in training, military medicine, navy, defence industryand peace-keeping operations.

The consensus was reached during the second Vietnam-FranceDefence Policy Dialogue held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 11. The event wasco-chaired by Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh, Vietnam’s Deputy DefenceMinister, and Vice Admiral Hervé de Bonnaventure, Deputy Director Generalfor International Relationsand Strategy under the French Ministry of Defence.

The two sides will increase meetings,exchange of delegations, especially high-ranking delegations of Vietnamese andFrench military officers, as well as visits of military ships.

Apart from promoting the efficiency of thebilateral defence policy dialogues, Vietnam and France will cooperate andsupport each other at multilateral forums, while expanding collaboration insuch areas as navigation and aviation security and safety, and response tonon-traditional security issues.

The French side wants to beef up defence tieswith Vietnam to contribute to peace, stability and development.

The dialogue took place at an important time,marking the adjustment of the defence cooperation mechanism between Vietnam andFrance in order to bring about tangible outcomes suitable with the newsituation, said Hervé de Bonnaventure.

Theevent was also held in the context that the two countries are celebrating the45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and five years of theestablishment of their strategic partnership.-VNA

Vietnam, Russia step up cooperation in civil defence, emergency response

Looking ahead, the Vietnamese side expressed its wish that the two sides would continue to promote cooperation, focusing on the exchange of delegations at all levels, training programmes, sharing of experience in civil defence, disaster prevention and emergency management, and exploring search and rescue equipment.
