Two-way trade between Vietnam and France sharply increased in the first nine months of 2010, reaching 1.56 billion EUR, up 19.03 percent year-on-year, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in France.

The turnover for the year is estimated at 1.99 billion EUR, as compared to 1.744 billion EUR in 2009.

Pham Xuan Yen, commercial counsellor of the embassy, said Vietnam’s export turnover to France in the first three quarters of the year saw a higher growth rate than those of previous years. The figure for the reviewed period was one billion EUR, increasing by 11.53 percent over the last year’s corresponding time.

The growth is expected to keep its pace by the year’s end thanks to the contributions from top export staples, including mechanical products with a turnover of 56 million EUR or an 88.74 percent increase.

The French market holds a great potential for Vietnam’s seafood, with an estimated increase of 34.24 percent in imports from Vietnam over 2009.

Other staples are also on the rise such as footwear and garment fetching up 176.8 million EUR in September, a year-on-year increase of 3.2 percent, and household utensils – 97.32 million EUR or a 6.92 percent increase, thanks to the recovery of the French economy.

Meanwhile, Vietnam imported from France aero-equipment, medicines, mechanical and electronic products, and chemicals worth over 509 million EUR in the first nine months of 2010, up by 38.26 percent from the same period of 2009./.
