Vietnam-France trade sharply increases

Two-way trade between Vietnam and France sharply increased in the first nine months of 2010, reaching 1.56 billion EUR, up 19.03 percent year-on-year, according to the Vietnamese Embassy in France.

The turnover for the year is estimated at 1.99 billion EUR, as compared to 1.744 billion EUR in 2009.

PhamXuan Yen, commercial counsellor of the embassy, said Vietnam’s exportturnover to France in the first three quarters of the year saw a highergrowth rate than those of previous years. The figure for the reviewedperiod was one billion EUR, increasing by 11.53 percent over the lastyear’s corresponding time.

The growth is expected to keep itspace by the year’s end thanks to the contributions from top exportstaples, including mechanical products with a turnover of 56 million EURor an 88.74 percent increase.

The French market holds a greatpotential for Vietnam’s seafood, with an estimated increase of 34.24percent in imports from Vietnam over 2009.

Other staples are alsoon the rise such as footwear and garment fetching up 176.8 million EURin September, a year-on-year increase of 3.2 percent, and householdutensils – 97.32 million EUR or a 6.92 percent increase, thanks to therecovery of the French economy.

Meanwhile, Vietnam imported fromFrance aero-equipment, medicines, mechanical and electronic products,and chemicals worth over 509 million EUR in the first nine months of2010, up by 38.26 percent from the same period of 2009./.
