Vietnam wants to receive support from the United Nations to fulfill its tasks when joining the organisation’s peacekeeping mission, a senior army official has said.

Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) made the wish in Hanoi on September 20 while receiving a delegation from the UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations and Department of Field Support and the US ’ Global Peace Operations Initiative.

At the reception, Tuan affirmed that joining the UN peacekeeping mission is an important task and responsibility of the VPA and the Vietnamese people in general.

Darryl Watters, head of the delegation, said that over the past years, Vietnam has contributed many initiatives to the UN’s peacekeeping operations.

He said he hopes after his visit, Vietnam will make all necessary preparations to ensure its participation in the peacekeeping force as scheduled./.
