Vietnam, Laos Parties share experience in sustainable development

KienGiang (VNA) – The fifth theoretical workshop between the CommunistParty of Vietnam (CPV) and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), themed“Rapid, sustainable development,” opened in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province ofKien Giang on August 3.

Inhis opening remarks, Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member, Secretary of the PartyCentral Committee and head of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission forInformation and Education, said the workshop is significant theoretically andpractically. 

Itis taking place at a time when Vietnam and Laos are marking the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic ties and 40 years of the signing of the Vietnam-LaosTreaty of Amity and Cooperation, he said.

Vietnamis implementing the Resolution adopted at the 12th National PartyCongress and Laos is also materialising the Resolution of the 10th Party Congress, the official added.

Thetwo-day workshop offers an opportunity for Vietnamese and Lao scientists toexchange experience in socio-economic development, especially socialist-orientedsustainable development.

Thuongreiterated the Vietnamese Party’s viewpoints on rapid, sustainable development,and introduced experience the country gained over the past years as well asorientations and tasks set for the time ahead in order to improve theefficiency of the Party leadership.

Rapid,sustainable development is the cause pursued by the entire Party andpopulation, he said, noting that all people have equal chances to develop,contribute to development and benefit from its outcomes.

Thuongstressed the need to ensure rapid, sustainable development on the basis ofensuring the macro-economic stability and improving productivity, quality,efficiency and competitiveness of the economy.

Itis a must to closely combine economic development with cultural, social andenvironmental development, the readiness to cope with climate change, andnational defence and security, he said.

Theofficial expressed his hope that the two sides will regularly share theoreticaland practical experience, contributing to spurring rapid, sustainabledevelopment, and successfully carrying out reform in each country.

Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, head of the Lao People’sRevolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee’s Commission for Propaganda andTraining, alsohighlighted the LPRP’s viewpoints on sustainable development and briefed theworkshop on Laos’ experience in this field.

Hecalled on the two Parties and States to enhance the bilateral friendship,special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation. -VN

Politburo member Nguyen Van Nen, who is also a standing member of the subcommittee responsible for drafting the Congress documents, said one of the most important and breakthrough innovations in document crafting is the early rollout of new policy decisions and strategies before the Congress convenes. These have been tested in practice and refined through lessons drawn from 40 years of Doi Moi (renewal), before being distilled and embedded into the draft documents for consideration and adoption at the landmark gathering.
